Welcome to the Massachusetts Transverse Myelitis Support Group. My name is Leslie. I am the mother of a six-year old who was diagnosed with TM in 2001 at the age of three, just two weeks before Christmas. I have two other daughters, ages 3 and 9. Our journey as a family since the horrific night when my daughter woke up paralyzed has been both excruciating and rewarding. Today, Maria fully participates in a rich and rewarding life, in spite of certain challenges. However, for a long time, we were consumed with this illness, with getting Maria and ourselves through the day. Only recently have I come out of isolation and learned the power of communicating with families who have shared similar experiences. The journey is just a little bit easier when shared.
