TMA at FOP Conference
The members of the Transverse Myelitis Association were generously
invited to a conference sponsored by The International FOP
(Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva) Association on May 7-10, 1998 in
Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Charles Levy is a coordinator of the FOP conference
and is a member of the board of the TMA. Through the efforts of Dr. Levy
and Sharon Neumann, we were asked to participate in the conference.
While the conference had been designed to address issues which pertain
to FOP, it is quite evident from the agenda that the information
presented at the conference would be of benefit to persons with
transverse myelitis. The presenters were experts in a diversity of
subjects that are of critical importance to all persons with
disabilities.
We are aware that for many it was not possible to make the trip to
Columbus. Please do not be discouraged. The conference represents a
first opportunity for our international membership to meet, but there
will certainly be other opportunities, and we hope in the
not-too-distant future. Also, the conference was simulcast over the
Internet so you can share in the experience, even if you were not able
to make it to Columbus. We will also cover the conference proceedings in
the TMA newsletter so that everyone in our membership can share in the
experience.
